The mechanism of adsorption of sodium dodecylsulfonate on fluorite and its surface free energy

چکیده

The interaction mechanism of sodium dodecyl sulfonate (NaDS) with mineral fluorite has been investigated by Infrared Attenuated Total Reflection (ATR). Measurements have been done using a modified ATR cell which allows the study of powdered samples without previous manipulations. Adsorption experiments were carried out at 25°C and pH 6.5. Also measurements of the contact angle for water. glycerol. formamide and diiodomethane on the fluorite covered with NaDS film were made. and from the results the Lifshitz-van der Waals, electron-acceptor and electron-donor parameters of the surface free energy of the fluorite/NaDS film were determined. The comparison of the spectra obtained with samples of fluorite. both pure and after adsorption and further washings with water at room temperature and with hot water. respectively, and the spectrum of the adsorbed phase after extraction with Ccl,. suggests that chemisorption and physisorption processes take place on the fluorite surface. This is also viewed from the surface free energy components of bare fluorite and fluorite with SDS film washed with water at room temperature and hot water. A proposed mechanism suggests that the DSions are firstly chemisorbed and a CaFDS compound is formed. Then, a physisorption process takes place between the fluorite with CaFDS and DSions. by acid-base interactions. These results confirm those obtained from flotation and adsorption isotherms for this system.

Removal of Methylene Blue from Water by Polyacrylonitrile Co Sodium Methallylsulfonate Copolymer (AN69) and Polysulfone (PSf) Synthetic Membranes

Polyacrylonitrile-co-sodium methallylsulfonate copolymer (AN69) and polysulfone (PSf) synthetic membranes were prepared and used for the removal of methylene blue (MB) from water. Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Ionic exchange capacity (IEC), and Swelling ratio (Sr) were employed to determine the membrane characteristics. pH, membrane composition and initial dye concentration were used for t...

Adsorption of Phenolic Compounds onto the Activated Carbon Synthesized from Pulp and Paper Mill Sludge: Equilibrium Isotherm, Kinetics, Thermodynamics and Mechanism Studies

A new activated carbon was produced from pulp and paper mill sludge as a low cost precursor via chemical activation by zinc chloride. The activated carbon was successfully used for the adsorption of phenol and two of its derivatives, i.e. 2-chlorophenol and 4-nitrophenol from aqueous solutions. The characterization of the prepared activated carbon demonstrated high textural properties for the s...

Selective Separation of Fluorite, Barite and Calcite with Valonea Extract and Sodium Fluosilicate as Depressants

Fluorite, barite and calcite are important industry minerals. However, they often co-exist, presenting difficulty in selectively separating them due to their similar surface properties. In this study, valonea extract and sodium fluosilicate were used as depressants to selectively separate them by flotation, with sodium oleate as the collector. The single mineral flotation results showed that va...

Flotation Separation of Scheelite from Fluorite Using Sodium Polyacrylate as Inhibitor

The depressing properties of sodium polyacrylate (PA-Na) for scheelite and fluorite were studied by micro-flotation tests, infrared spectroscopy (IR), zeta potentials, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and density functional theory (DFT). The flotation results reveal that the selective depression effect of PA-Na is better than that of sodium silicate, and PA-Na can depress fluorite more e...

Polyvinyltetrazole (PVT) is produced from acrylonitrile (AN) monomer by using free-radicalpolymerization and Click Chemistry methods. The resulting polymer with a broad range of tetrazolegroup contents was conveniently synthesized through [3+ 2] azide-nitrile cycloaddition reaction ofnitrile-containing polymer with sodium azide in DMF. The prepared PVT was characterized by13CN...
